GEOTOPOS S.A., in cooperation with the Technical University
of Crete, in the framework of PAVET 2005 (Programme for the
Industrial Research and Technology), accomplishes the
project entitled "The Development of
a)a Method for estimating road traffic conditions using
Floating Car Data Technology and b) an algorithm for dynamic
navigation of vehicles".
The programme, funded by
the European Regional
Development Fund (ERDF),
aims at the development and strengthening of industrial
research and the activities of a pre-competitive type. The
programme is part of the Operational Programme
"COMPETITIVENESS" of the Greek
Ministry of Development,
General Secretariat for Research and Technology.
duration is 18 months.
The objectives of the project are:
α) the research and development of a method for estimating
road traffic conditions in urban areas
in real-time. The method is based on
the technology of Floating Car Data (FCD) collection.
β) the development of an advanced
navigation algorithm which will take into consideration the
existing traffic situation derived from FCDs.
The algorithms, following their completion, will be tested
in the field (in the roads of Athens)
using a small number of vehicles.
The project will be completed after the system
evaluation by using standard evaluation indexes.
The methods and algorithms that will be developed in the
framework of the present project, will be able to function
independently or in cooperation with other systems for
traffic conditions' estimation.
